The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says the country is seeing a dramatic increase in food poisoning cases from tainted food, but food safety experts are concerned that the increased food poisoning activity has little to do with the increased demand for those products.
CFIA’s Food Safety Monitoring and Assessment Service (FSMSAS) says that a food poisoning case in New Brunswick last week was the first to be confirmed in Canada.
According to CFIA, the food poisoning was the result of a contaminated product in the form of frozen food in a store.
“This is an issue we’ve seen in the U.S. and other countries,” says FSMSAS spokesperson Jean-Baptiste Lebel.
Food safety experts also caution that there are many different types of food poisoning that can occur. “
In general, it is not related to the availability of the product in Canada.”
Food safety experts also caution that there are many different types of food poisoning that can occur.
“It’s a complex set of factors,” says John Devereaux, a professor of public health sciences at the University of British Columbia and a former president of the International Society of Clinical Food Science and Epidemiology (ISFSEM).
“Some people may have allergies, some may have metabolic disorders, and some people may be allergic to other types of foods.”
Health officials are concerned about the high incidence of foodborne illness and food poisoning in the United States, and the high risk of people being infected with foodborne illnesses from contaminated foods.
According the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, food poisoning deaths have increased by 2.2% in the last year.
“There are more people affected, and more outbreaks,” says Devereux.
“So that could be a factor, but it is certainly not the sole factor.”
The food poisoning has prompted some politicians to call for tighter restrictions on food preparation in the country.
In December, the United Kingdom introduced a “food safety lockdown” to make sure people in the food chain were doing the best they could.
“We’re still a very small nation, so we have a limited amount of food, so it’s a lot of food to lock down,” says Julie Scott, the British government’s chief food safety officer.
“The lockdown has been successful, and people are doing a great job.”
Scott says that the U
